A week after ESPN turned back the clock with a documentary about the 1998 home run chase between Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa, MLB Network will air a special docuseries episode about one of the most popular baseball players of the ’90s.

The docuseries MLB Network Presents will debut a 90-minute episode about Ken Griffey Jr. at 8 p.m. EST on Father’s Day.

Entitled “Junior,” the episode will trace the 50-year-old’s journey from going from watching his dad Ken Griffey Sr. get ready to play during ’70s and ’80s as a kid to becoming the face of baseball throughout the ’90s.

Narrated by actor Sterling K. Brown, the episode contains interviews with notable characters including Lou Piniella, Reggie Jackson, Edgar Martinez, LeBron James, Bo Jackson, Gary Payton and Macklemore.

Launched in January 2015, MLB Network Presents “is an original series of documentaries and access-driven profiles” that is normally hosted by Bob Costas.

Griffey, who was elected into the Hall of Fame in 2016, and his dad played their first game together on Aug. 31, 1990, with the Seattle Mariners. Two weeks later on September 14, 1990, 40-year-old Griffey Sr. hit a two-run home run in the top of the first inning and the next batter, 20-year-old Griffey Jr., hit a home run of his own.

It is believed that the Griffeys are the only father-son duo in MLB history to hit back-to-back home runs in a game.
