What’s Next For Natalie Portman?
Get a first look at the star as a glamorous pop star for the upcoming film, "Vox Lux."
Natalie Portman has a new look: Glamorous pop star. In Vox Lux, the upcoming music drama which will be debuted at the Venice Film Festival on September 4, the Oscar-winning actress plays Celeste, a pop diva who climbs from tragedy to worldwide stardom, according to Vanity Fair. The film follows Celeste over the course of 18 years, starting in 1999. In the first teaser for the film, Portman struts backstage in a feathery ensemble with her hair pulled back in a thick silver updo.
Vanity Fair writes that the film starts off by letting viewers see Celeste in her teen years — the character at this point is played by Raffey Cassidy, who starred in The Killing of a Sacred Deer. Celeste survives a violent tragedy, and performs at the memorial service. This kicks off her pop career, and she quickly climbs the ladder with help from her songwriter sister (Stacy Martin) and talent manager (Jude Law). She eventually rises to American icon status. But when we meet Celeste in 2017, when she is played by Portman, she is an embattled, scandalized star trying to stage a comeback with her sixth album, according to Vanity Fair.
