There’s a disturbance in the Star Wars universe: Mark Hamill says that the final chapter of new trilogy, Episode IX, will be “bittersweet” without the late Carrie Fisher.
But the actor said he is “finding solace” in the fact that the “irreplaceable” actress will still appear in the film, thanks to unused footage from the previous installment. BBC reports that it was announced last week that Star Wars: Episode IX would see Fisher featured as Princess Leia Organa. Fisher died in 2016 after finishing her work on Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

In a tweet, Hamill also posted two pictures of them together, both which show him kissing the late actress. Hamill also said that Fisher “would love the worldwide outpouring of affection” after the news broke that she would appear in Episode IX. Hamill will be reprising his role as Luke Skywalker. The cast will also include the new faces of Keri Russell and Richard E. Grant.

Director JJ Abrams said there was never any intention to have Leia played by someone else or be recreated using computer-generated imagery, reports BBC. He said that the use of previously unseen footage in the new film will allow the movie “to honor Carrie’s legacy” and find “a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga.”
