Miley Cyrus loves covers.

And she’s pretty good at them — be it Hall & Oates, Blondie or The Cure (even some Nine Inch Nails takes, heavily altered in service of a Black Mirror story, landed Trent Reznor’s approval). But now the raspy pop singer is tackling an unusual project: Metallica.

Cyrus dropped this wild project idea during an interview with, well, Interview magazine.

Said the singer: “We’ve been working on a Metallica cover album and I’m here working on that. We’re so lucky to be able to continue to work on our art during all of this. At first, it felt uninspiring and now I’ve been totally ignited. Have you been feeling the same way?”

Will it work? Possibly! Although mainstream listeners may only know her from earworms like “Party in the U.S.A.” and “Wrecking Ball,” Cyrus cites Iggy Pop as a major influence, she’s worked and toured with the Flaming Lips … and she certainly has the right spirit about the project. “I have such a healthy and sexy relationship with recklessness right now,” she told Interview. “I can say yes to anything.”

Plus, she’s worn Metallica shirts during live shows and has covered the band’s ballad “Nothing Else Matters,” as Stereogum notes. In the meantime, Cyrus is also releasing a regular, non-Metallica album in November.
