There’s not much governing involved with being an English royal these days.
Which leaves plenty of time for Prince Charles to crusade against the important issues, like Twitter’s inevitable destruction of the English language.
At an event celebrating 500 years of Royal Mail, the Prince of Wales expressed his fear for the “mortal threat” texting and social media apps pose to the Queen’s English. And as a man “who relies on the well-aimed letter — and relishes the ones in return!” he wanted to thank the Royal Mail workers for a job well-done (no matter how outdated that well-done job may be).
“On behalf of letter writers… of the eager and expectant on Valentine’s and other equally special days’ and, indeed, on behalf of dear old Santa Claus himself, I can only offer my heartfelt thanks and warmest congratulations … You are, as they say, a National treasure,” Prince Charles told the crowd.
Truly moving speech, Charles. But here’s what we imagine youth culture’s response is, in 140 characters or less:
Who is Prince Charles? Wut is Wales? Twitter rules. H8r. Get over it. #shitoldpeoplesay
