Car commercials tend to take some conceptual liberties.
Like cities without a single other car on the road. (What is this, Inception?) Or luxury SUVs cruising through rainy, craggy highlands looking like they just came from a fresh buff.
But Porsche’s new Mission E Cross Turismo concept, just unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, is a vehicle that somehow meets the car commercial’s platonic idea with a unique blend of speed, outdoor adventure and renewable energy.
The Mission E Cross Turismo is an all-electric sports car with 600hp and a 0-to-60 time of four seconds flat. But atypical of the sport sedan category, it also includes a healthy bit of ground clearance and a helpful rail system with adjustable straps for tying down any excess cargo. The cockpit features informational dashboards (covering maps, topography, climate, you name it) and without a combustion engine, exhaust system or transmission tunnel, the whole auto’s as quiet as a library.
Not to mention it charges like a champ, and Porsche is currently investing a ton of money into a network of charging stations for its owners.
The future is green. And so are all the places where this car performs best.
