Citing an unnamed source, Business Insider has reported some Facebook employees believe Mark Zuckerberg has a “panic chute” hidden in the floor of a conference room.
Yup, seriously.
If it exists, it is believed the secret escape passageway leads directly to the parking garage of the company’s headquarters in Menlo Park, California.
That same conference room is also reportedly outfitted with bullet-resistant windows and a panic button.
Though the hidden passage may be being kept under wraps, it’s no secret Zuck is serious about his security.
At Facebook all-hands meetings, members of his Praetorian Guard sit at the front of the room in case an employee tries to rush him. Some also wear civilian clothes and sit amongst the crowd to blend in with non-security employees.
All of that comes at a hefty price tag, but it’s one the company has no problem paying as Facebook’s board approved a $10 million security allowance for Zuckerberg and his family for the year in July 2018.
And there’s a good reason Zuckerberg gets all of that protection.
“He receives numerous of death threats each week, and the security team actively monitors social media for mentions of him and Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook’s chief operating officer, to detect them,” according to BI. “The pair also have stalkers, who alternately declare their undying love for the execs and harbor worrying vendettas against them.”
