Neither Donald Trump nor Elon Musk has ever shied from controversy or avoided a fight, but a venture capitalist has launched an attack that seems to be getting the Tesla co-founder’s attention.
Since the 2016 election, Musk has met with the President and joined committees in the Trump administration. This has outraged the decidedly partisan Doug Derwin, who has decided to make his feelings known. The result has been $500,000 in spending so far, which Derwin has announced will rise to $2 million. That outlay has produced billboards and the website, Elon Dump Trump. Newspaper and TV ads are soon to follow, as well as information booths at colleges to convince students not to work for Tesla.
So far, results have been mixed. Obviously, Musk has yet to reject the current administration or put on a “Resist” hat. (The latter being an act Derwin says will result in a donation of $1 million to a charity of Musk’s choice.)
Derwin, however, does report Musk has sent lieutenants to meet with him, suggesting at a minimum the wide-ranging protests have been heard.
