Lady Gaga is already generating Oscar buzz following the premiere of A Star Is Born at the Venice Film Festival, and she will grace the cover of the October issue of Vogue. As the stunningly well received movie approaches its October 5 arrival in American movie theaters, Lady Gaga spoke to Vogue about her extraordinary chemistry with Bradley Cooper, and the organic origins of her casting in A Star Is Born.

The story of Lady Gaga and Cooper’s meeting is as romantic as the famous plot of A Star Is Born. Cooper saw Lady Gaga sing ‘La Vie En Rose’ at a benefit and, and as Cooper tells it, “I was just… levitating. It shot like a diamond through my brain.” The following day, Cooper drove to Lady Gaga’s Malibu estate, where the harmonizing continued. “The second that I saw him,” Lady Gaga told Vogue, “I was like, Have I known you my whole life? It was an instant connection, instant understanding of one another.”

When asked what has changed for her over these last ten years, October cover star @LadyGaga, who’s 32, says, “A galaxy,” and laughs. “There has been a galaxy of change.” She pauses for a moment. “I would just say that it’s been a nonstop whirlwind. And when I am in an imaginative or creative mode, it sort of grabs me like a sleigh with a thousand horses and pulls me away and I just don’t stop working.” Another pause. “You . . . make friends, you lose friends, you build tighter bonds with people you’ve known for your whole life. But there’s a lot of emotional pain, and you can’t really understand what it all means until ten years has gone by.” Tap the link in our bio to read the full interview. During that first meeting, the pair shared a duet on the folk song “Midnight Special.” The video Cooper shot on his phone of their first time singing together became an integral part of his sales pitch to Warner Bros, an argument for why he and Gaga could play romantic leads.
