Chinese art is hot (and sometimes even explosive), and Sotheby’s Hong Kong is banking on a subsection of the Asian art world that itself is rising in popularity: ink art.
With its roots in the tradition of Chinese painting, ink art has evolved quite a bit over the years, as is showcased in the upcoming “Contemporary Ink Art: Journey,” auction taking place on Oct. 4. Some of the works depict literati symbols, political satire, and complex calligraphy; and the auction’s “journey” theme is based on artist Liu Kuo-sung’s piece, “Blue Moon Landscape,” which was inspired by moon missions of the past (see the image above).
