The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City is set to open a major retrospective of abstract artist Agnes Martin on October 7. The exhibition will include Martin’s paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures, and film. The artist, who was born in Canada but became a U.S. citizen in 1950, lived and taught in New York City in the 1940s and 1950s. Martin’s work is characterized by simple, abstractions such as squares, grids, lines, and single colors, with only subtle variations. This is not her first time at the Guggenheim; in ’66, her work was part of the Systemic Painting exhibition, which covered New York’s top Minimalist artists. Preview five of her paintings that will be on display in October below. Plan a visit to the Guggenheim here.
