Sony unveiled the Playstation 5 during a livestream on Thursday, offering up new details on its eagerly awaited new console arriving this winter.
As IGN reports, there were 26 games revealed, along with the design and specs of the black-white-blue console, which can rest horizontally or vertically.
A few things that stood out to us:
- There’s a disc-less edition of the console. As Cheap Ass Gamer points out on Twitter, that’s going to confuse a lot of parents.
Christmas morning will be fun this year when parents all over the world discover they bought a PS5 without a disc drive along with some games on disc for their kid/s.

- The follow-up to the excellent 2018 Playstation 4 title Spider-Man: Miles Morales is actually just an “enhancement to the previous game,” not a sequel. Although the improved storage on the unit means the game is going to load a heck of a lot faster on a PS5 than on previous models.
- Not everyone liked the console’s sleek look, with comparisons to Sauron tower, a “dope ass air humidifier,” a router, Oreo cookies and a “new expensive campus performing arts center.”

- The included accessories are a big step up, with a TV-style remote, controller-charging base station, a ‘Pulse 3D’ wireless headset and an HD camera.
- Sequel titles of interest arriving around or soon after the console’s debut include NBA2K21, Hitman 3, Grand Theft Auto 5, Resident Evil: Village and, date TBD, Oddworld: Soulstorm. Meanwhile, as far as original titles go, I have no idea what Bugsnax is about but it looks extremely trippy and fun.
