The Authorized ‘Apocalypse Now’ Video Game Will Give You All the Nightmares

It's not a shooter. It's a ‘survival horror experience.’

“I remember telling my editor Walter Murch that the more he worked on Apocalypse Now, the crazier he would get,” says Francis Ford Coppola. “If you experience this game, perhaps it will have the same effect on you.”

The game he’s talking about is a first-person role-playing game of his legendary film, currently in development and seeking funding on Kickstarter. If crowdfunding seems to be a less than prestigious way to adapt arguably one of the greatest films ever made, rest assured it’s in good hands. The team developing it not only has Coppola’s blessing, they also have a seriously decorated track record in the world of RPGs (Fallout: New Vegas, Wasteland 2, Far Cry).

Their main proclamation re: the new game? “We are not making a shooter. We are making a survival horror experience.”

Yikes.

If that sounds like your cup o’ tea, they’re looking for at least $900K through Kickstarter before February 24th. After that you can see updates at ApocalypseNow.com, which will also act as “a long running ongoing crowdfunding campaign to raise an additional $5,000,000.”

The target release date is October 2020. Given Francis Ford Coppola’s stamp of approval, we’ll be waiting with fingers crossed until then.
