A 69-year-old Dutch man is trying to get a court to legally reduce his age by 20 years in order to improve his chances with women on dating apps.
Emile Ratelband is likening his need for the change to the struggles of a transgender person, CNN reported. He alleges it’s necessary for both his romantic and professional lives.
“You can change your name,” Ratelband said. “You can change your gender. Why not your age? Nowhere are you so discriminated against as with your age.”
He argued that he “suffers” as a 69-year-old and has been feeling “20, 25 years younger” than his actual age.
“If I put on Tinder that I am 69, I will not get a response…(But) 49, with that face of mine, then I’m rammed,” he said.
The court is reportedly skeptical about Ratelband’s claim and there is no legal precedent, but, if successful, his bid would change his birthdate from March 11, 1949 to March 11, 1969.
