Though the Talbot-Lago T150-C SS gets its nickname, “teardrop,” from its distinctive shape, it could also be from what its competitors were crying after it won the 1937 French Grand Prix.
A seamless blend of style, speed and sophistication, the aerodynamic coupe was designed by Giuseppe Figoni to emulate the art deco style that was becoming popular in France at the time.
With flashy looks provided by covered front and rear fenders, intricate chrome grills over its headlights and radiator and a two-tone paint job that really pops, the T150-C SS is handsome if not a bit evil. Okay, very evil.
It’s also surprisingly hearty thanks to a straight-six engine featuring a trio of Zénith-Stromberg carburetors that power the car to a top speed approaching 100 MPH and give it 140 horses.
The 1937 model you see here can hit those specs after spending most of its life in Switzerland. It was restored to competition level by Atelier Auto Classique Touraine in 2002.
Its owner is apparently tired of owning a masterpiece and is putting it up for auction in May.
