The electric car company Fisker, makers of the upcoming EMotion EV and the first car company to put a curved solar roof on a vehicle, just patented a new type of car battery with a 500-mile range that can be charged in one minute.
Using what they call “flexible solid state” technology, Fisker has a working prototype of a non-flammable battery that’s much smaller than current EV batteries and could go for about a third of the price. Plus, that 60-second charge-up makes electric cars conceivably as quick and convenient as a regular gas fill-up.
“It’s a game changer,” says company CEO Henrik Fisker.
The new batteries will be shown off at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, but it’s not expected to hit the consumer market for a few more years.
