Actually, hold that thought. They might’ve just done it one better.
The sneaker gods over at Converse have cobbled together a new line of Chuck Taylor All Stars, only this time with an all-leather build. We are more than a little smitten.
Though named the Chuck Taylor 70s, the shoe actually revives a 1917 release, when Converse released its first basketball shoe (sprained ankles didn’t exist at the time, apparently). The ode to yesteryear manifests in pretense-less colorways — blue piping with either maroon, yellow or red accents — with those patented metal eyelets and wide laces.
Given that our lone complaint with the otherwise unimpeachable icon is that white canvas tends to wear down over the years (dirt, puddles, hot sauce), this leather option is an exciting change of pace. Especially considering the price point: still super accessible, at just $95.
