Greetings.

I am in Miami Beach, where it is 78 degrees at the time of this writing, and the beach is 163 steps from my desk.

I am here under the guise of “editorial research.”

Miami, it seems, is quite hot right now, and I do not only mean in the literal. Real estate prices have hockey-sticked since the onset of the pandemic, with the worlds of tech and finance taking up quarters alongside more traditional local pursuits like “hiding beers from the lifeguard” and “cycling down the boardwalk with a speaker blaring from your backpack.”

And so, with all these neophytes — yours truly included — flocking in from all over the country, we decided it’s time we set up shop in the city where one Willard Carroll Smith once partied all night, on the beach, till the break of dawn.

Today (February 23), we’ll send out our first Miami newsletter; without spoiling too much, I can tell you that some of our first subjects will include a photobook celebrating Miami Beach’s Jewish community in the 1970s, a behind-the-scenes tour of a Miami hotspot’s iconic “duck room,” and an organization that is devoted to preserving the city’s unique art-deco aesthetic despite the steady creep of luxury skyscrapers from nearly every direction.

If you want to help us spread the word, share this link right here with your friends. Forwarding this email also works.

The first edition arrives Wednesday. Until then, loosen your belt, fix a drink and kick your feet up. And if you have any questions, comments or tips (especially tips!), don’t hesitate to drop me a line.
