Cars and bravery! That’s stock car racing.
Sure, it’s a Southern-bred craze, born of gravel-kicking moonshine smuggles at 100 MPH — but yokel roots aside, its daring spirit appeals to the everyman.
Offering you the wheel: Simraceway Performance Driving Center and their daylong stock car driving experience in Sonoma.
Founded by the guy who trained Formula One champ Emerson Fittipaldi and made movie magic in Frankenheimer’s Grand Prix, Simraceway’s new stock car program puts you behind the wheel of 5.7-liter, 400+ horsepower V8s for a full day of thunder.
Not just through left turns, either. Sonoma Raceway offers a decidedly non-ovoid, 2.5-mile road track.
Instruction comes in multiple flavors, from a toe-wetting half-day of class and wheel-time (safety gear included) to two-day programs that’ll make a left-foot-braking, performance-gear-shifting, straightaway-drafting stock car driver of you.
Completion of the circuit entitles you to compete in arrive-and-drive, full-weekend racing events.
The bravery: all you, buddy.
Nota bene: Call for reservations until the Center updates its online calendar. Class is, indeed, still in session.
