MTV’s Liquid Television was the kind of the show that never drew itself into a corner.
Those who remember the early ‘90s animated variety show know its importance: it was an experimental platform for indie animators to showcase their ideas, responsible for giving the world Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head and Peter Chung’s Æon Flux, a groundbreaking anime that would later have its reputation besmirched by Paramount Pictures.
The series ran from 1991 to 1994, and now, thanks to the Internet Archive, the whole series is available online for your viewing pleasure.
If anything, the series was a precursor to everything we know today about modern adult animation. Each 30-minute episode was filled with all kinds of animated segments, including early Mike Judge Office Space shorts and a now-infamous dubbed version of the 1987 short by Yoshiaki Kawajiri entitled “Running Man” from the anime anthology Neo Tokyo.
