Netflix enlisted Brad Pitt for it’s biggest beachhead into original feature films. And now the streaming site is showing off the first reel look at the result, “War Machine.”
The film stars Hollywood A-listers such as Pitt (also a producer), Tilda Swinton, and Sir Ben Kingsley; along with Topher Grace (That ’70s Show), Emory Cohen (Brooklyn), Anthony Michael Hall (every enjoyable ’80s movie), Will Poulter, Lakeith Stanfield, and Meg Tilly. The plot follows a U.S. General Glenn McMahon (Pitt) on his rise to power, peaking at commanding NATO forces in Afghanistan and cratering via a journalist’s pen. With a heavy dosage of absurdism (think: Kurt Vonnegut’s Cat’s Cradle) and that stellar cast, writer-director David Michôd’s film looks to be a winner on arrival.
Netflix could use a success after arch-rival Amazon took home two Oscars for “Manchester by the Sea.”
“War Machine” will start streaming on May 26. Take a peek at some more of first-look photos below. Also, watch the teaser trailer.
