Head Lights

All praise the lowly bike helmet.

Once considered merely a dorkish must, the old noggin armor’s received svelte upgrades of late.

And now they’re going straight TRON.

Give an appreciative whistle to the T1, a futuristic line of recently Kickstarted LED-lit helmets, taking orders now.

From LA-based Torch, the T1 sheaths your dome in lights — five white ones in front, five red ones in back.

The result: 360-degree visibility.

“Drivers don’t make eye contact with bikers,” says the T1’s creator, Nathan Wills, who’s done design work for BMW. “But with the helmet they see the lights and automatically look at you in the eyes.”

He should know. He commutes from Los Feliz to Downtown on his bike every day.

Just under a pound, the T1 is almost as light as a racing helmet. It shines for three to five hours and charges in less than two.

You can pre-order right here. The helmets ship in June. And then you’ll be both stylish and safe.
