Rehoboth Beach’s Profile Just Got a Whole Lot Higher

You're about to hear a lot about the Delaware beach town

There’s a lot to like about the seaside town of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware — from its beaches to the presence of one of the country’s leading craft breweries. (Full disclosure: I also got the worst sunburn of my adult life there many years ago, but that’s a story for another time.) Rehoboth Beach is in the process of having its profile dramatically heightened, though. Why? It’s where Joe and Jill Biden maintain a summer home. And that means a lot more eyes are going to be on Rehoboth Beach in the coming years.

Writing at Air Mail, Alex Thomas provided a guide to the town and a look at the Bidens’ impact on it. Thomas has his own experience with Rehoboth Beach, including spending several summers there as a lifeguard when he was growing up. He described the local sights, including “a mile-long strip of boardwalk lined with stores selling saltwater taffy, french fries, and hermit crabs with their shells painted.”

While the Bidens may be the highest-profile residents of Rehoboth Beach, they’re not the only ones. Thomas cited the likes of Richard Gere, Spiro Agnew and David Grohl as other celebrities who have found the beach town amenable.

Rehoboth Beach mayor Stan Mills referred to his town as “the nation’s summer capital,” a concept that predated Biden’s election to the highest office in the land. Will the coming years dramatically change Rehoboth Beach? From reading Thomas’s article, it sounds like its charms are set to remain intact.
