If you’re up for the journey, the Seychelles is a heaven for anglers. A string of 115 low-lying islands in the Indian Ocean off the eastern coast of Africa, the Seychelles are much like the Galapagos Islands in that their isolation has led to an incredibly unique set of flora and fauna on the archipelago. In particular, its location coupled with the numerous atolls contribute to the high concentration of extraordinary fish population. Over 1,000 different species have called the Seychelles home at one point or another. The Cosmoledo Atoll, found in the the archipelago’s Outer Islands, is particularly appealing due to its large population of bonefish, three different types of triggerfish, barracuda, snapper, grouper, permit, parrotfish, milkfish, and eight species of trevally.
Of the eight, the Giant Trevally is the most prized due to its strength and endurance once hooked. An apex predator, the Giant Trevally has a reputation for aggression. Indeed, the fish has even been known to attacks sharks when competing for prey, adding its allure for anglers. The video below documents one group’s hunt for the Giant Trevally, among the many other game fish, in the remote, pristine waters of the Seychelles’ Outer Islands.
