Vanna White Hosts “Wheel of Fortune” Due to Pat Sajak’s Surgery

The team of Pat Sajak and Vanna White have been mainstays on the game show Wheel of Fortune for decades now — an impressive feat in an environment that abounds with change and shifts in personnel. This week saw one of the rare instances where Sajak and White were not both on the show. The reason? CNN reports that Sajak needed emergency surgery on Thursday due to a blocked intestine.

That led to the show’s taping for that day being canceled, according to a message posted on the show’s Twitter account. Sajak is currently recuperating, while White is taking over hosting duties while he rests up.

This isn’t the first time that White has taken over hosting duties: she also filled in for Sajak in 1996, when laryngitis prevented him from hosting an episode.
