LeSean “Shady” McCoy, who was on the field for Kansas City last season when the Chiefs beat the Patriots to avenge their loss in the previous season’s AFC Championship game, has agreed to a one-year deal to join former New England quarterback Tom Brady in Tampa Bay on the Buccaneers.
The team gets McCoy on the veteran’s minimum of just over $1 million, making the signing a low-cost, low-risk option for the Bucs.

The longtime Philadelphia Eagle and former Buffalo Bill saw the field a lot early in the season for the Chiefs but didn’t see a significant number of snaps following the New England game and did not get a single postseason carry during Kansas City’s run to the Super Bowl, finishing his season with 465 yards and four touchdowns on 101 carries to go along with 28 receptions for 181 yards and another score.
Regardless, Shady is going to Tampa to team with Brady to try to win his second straight championship ring.
“He’s very excited to play with established vets like Brady and Gronk in trying to win another championship,” the 32-year-old running back’s agent Drew Rosenhaus told ESPN.
In Tampa, McCoy will compete with Ronald Jones on early downs and challenge Dare Ogunbowale for third-down duties as well. Rookie running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn, who was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list this week, may also factor into the mix if he is able to return to the team.
A six-time Pro Bowler, two-time All-Pro and the 2013 rushing-title winner with 1,607 yards, McCoy ranks third among active players with 11,071 career rushing yards, behind only Frank Gore and Adrian Peterson.
