Get yo’self to Tim Armstrong’s new art show

  • 24 January 2014

“Passion,” Shepard Fairey once said, “is more important than precision.”

Holds for street art. Definitely holds for punk rock. And definitely describes Avenues and Alleyways, an excellent new exhibit from Rancid’s Tim Armstrong, opening tonight with a DJ set from Fairey at Subliminal Projects in Echo Park.

Armstrong is an incredibly busy dude.

Seminal punk band Rancid: he’s a founding member.

Hellcat Records: his.

Grammy Award-winning album with Jimmy Cliff: check.

Countless collaborations with everyone from Pink to Joe Strummer: done.

And he draws every day.

This will be his first solo exhibit, featuring about 78 recent works, mostly done on mixed media and silkscreen and set ablaze in acrylic and spray-paint (here’s a little gallery).

There will be sound to the fury. Armstrong’s band — Tim Timebomb and Friends — will rock a short set, followed by a Fairey DJ set.

And Subliminal has created a limited number of box sets containing 45 screen prints for sale.

They’ll sell quickly, so get there soon. Like tonight.

Nota bene: Before heading that way, revisit our Echo Park Dinner Plan for some dining and drinking options.
