The Big Apple’s Japan Cuts Film Fest Turns 10

New York plays host to the most cutting-edge Japanese cinema

July 13, 2016 10:00 am EDT

From July 14-24, New York City’s Japan Society hosts the 10th-anniversary installment of Japan Cuts, North America’s largest festival of new Japanese films. The festival covers everything from Japan’s latest blockbusters to the truly avant-garde, with stars, directors, and other members of the industry journeying over to attend in person.

As well as recent releases, the 2016 festival includes little-seen classics, like 1982’s Burst City (which might be best described as “Mad Max meets the yakuza”).
