NFL Analyst: Tom Brady’s Replacement Could Be Colin Kaepernick

Cris Carter said New England could sign Kaepernick instead of drafting Brady's successor.

With four picks in the first three rounds of the NFL draft, many football pundits fully expect the Patriots to attempt to find Tom Brady’s eventual successor this spring.

But, there are some, like Cris Carter, who think New England will go a different route in finding the heir to Brady’s throne. In Carter’s case, it would be a very different route …

On Friday, the First Things First host floated the idea that the Patriots might actually try to replace Brady with Colin Kaepernick.

“The Patriots are not a great drafting team. We tell the Tom Brady story, but they miss more than the hit in the draft,” Carter said on FS1. “If you look at most of their players, they come from – let me get a retread here. I wouldn’t be consumed with just the draft. I wouldn’t be surprised. I just think they’ll do it a different way. I know the Krafts are very, very fond of Colin Kaepernick. I know that situation we had, the national anthem, they wish we never went down that road. If someone will do it, it will be the people in New England.”

While this is incredibly unlikely to happen, it’s not the first time the Patriots have been linked with Kaepernick.

Last year, Kaepernick’s attorney hinted New England could be interested in signing his client. Months later, Patriots owner Robert Kraft was asked about the possibility of his teaming inking for the former 49er.

While Kraft dodged the question, he did say: “I would very much like to see him in the league.”
