Congratulations are in order to Lindsey Vonn, who is (still) engaged (again?)! The Olympic gold medalist, who got engaged to National Hockey League star P.K. Subban back in August, took her turn popping the question earlier this week, presenting Subban with an engagement ring of his own.
“On our 2 year anniversary I returned the favor and asked PK to marry me … and he said yes,” Vonn wrote in an Instagram caption on Wednesday accompanying photos of the couple in matching pajamas with their dogs in front of the Christmas tree.
Vonn said the “non-traditional move” was done in the interest of equality. “We talk about equality but actions speak louder than words,” Vonn wrote in the Instagram caption. “Men deserve engagement rings too and this is what PK deserves.”
As NBC noted, Vonn and Subban are now among 7 percent of couples who exchange two engagement rings, according to The Knot’s 2019 Jewelry and Engagement Study.
The couple has been together for two years, and first went public with their relationship back in 2018. Earlier this year, Vonn told Vogue that she and Subban are “not in a big hurry to get married,” explaining that the wedding plans will be made around Subban’s playing schedule. “I don’t want to stress him out because he has a big season coming,” she added.
Vonn announced her plans to retire from professional skiing in February, finishing her career with 82 World Cup victories, four World Cup Overall championships and three Olympic medals.
“Lindsey’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me,” Subban told Vogue. “She deserves to be with someone who loves her more than anything else in the world, and I do.”
Vonn also shared the re-engagement news on Twitter, writing, “Women aren’t the only ones who should get engagement rings!”
