Late-night comedian Stephen Colbert commended the president on Wednesday night after it was widely reported that Trump offered commutation for Alice Johnson, a 63-year-old grandmother serving a life sentence for a first-time, nonviolent drug offense she was convicted of in 1996.

“I want you to brace yourself, because here’s a sentence I don’t often say: Donald Trump did something good,” Colbert said.

Saying “He did the right thing, she didn’t deserve to be in there,” Colbert suggested the president did the “right thing for the wrong reason.”

“There was no formal legal process or review as there normally is,” Colbert said. “Trump just commuted her sentence because of a meeting with Kim Kardashian. Executive clemency is now just a reality TV show.”
