The Best Wilderness Resort in America Just Added a Glampsite
It's about time you got acquainted with the Ozarks
Bass Pro Shops CEO Johnny Morris opened Big Cedar Lodge in Missouri’s southwestern Ozark Mountains over thirty years ago, imagining a comprehensive wilderness retreat where fishing faithful could find largemouth, smallmouth, Kentucky spotted bass and white bass in Table Rock Lake by day, and enjoy creature comforts with friends and family by night.
In the years since, those creature comforts have expanded. Considerably.
Last year we reported on the Ozarks’ emergence as a golf mecca — Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger have all designed courses at Big Cedar — and this year the resort’s significantly built out its luxury lodging. It recently opened Camp Long Creek, a 40-unit glampsite with a variety of cabins, huts and tents. The size of each fixture ranges anywhere between 190 and 330 square feet, so these are definitely tiny homes, but they’re economical in space used. Each unit has an open floor plan, leaving room for the essentials: big bed, stone fire-pit, bathtub, screened-in porch.
This is a clever, on-trend move by Big Cedar Lodge. Emerging clamping companies like Autocamp, which has its own custom assembly-line at the Airstream plant, and just planted 100 custom Airstreams, tents and tiny cabins outside Yosemite, have proven that people want their nature with a side of clean sheets.
Guests at Camp Long Creek can expect access to every amenity Big Cedar has to offer, which includes fishing, golf, heated infinity pools, access to a yacht, live music performances, a full-service spa, nature excursions to canyon caves nearby, horseback riding, go-karts, and a whole lot more. Rates start around $184 a day.
