Scream fans may have something to look forward to once the coronavirus quarantine is over: Neve Campbell, who played the horror franchise’s lead character Sidney Prescott, has revealed that she’s in talks to reprise her role in Scream 5.

Campbell admitted that she was “apprehensive” about joining the fifth Scream movie, which is currently in development with original screenwriter Kevin Williamson, after the death of director Wes Craven in 2015. “He was such a genius, and he is the reason the [Scream movies] are what they are,” she said in an interview with ReelBlend co-host Jake Hamilton, as reported by the Daily Mail.  “But [directing duo Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin] have come to me with such a great appreciation for Wes’ work, and they really want to honor it. That meant a lot to me. Hopefully we’ll be able to do it!”

However, while Campbell is optimistic they’ll be able to make something work, there’s no word on how or when, thanks in part to the fact that production on the movie will be delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“The conversations are being had, that’s for sure. There was a lot of talk about it,” Campbell said. “I wasn’t sure it was going to happen and I was approached six weeks ago, but the timing’s not great right now, obviously. We’re starting conversations, we’re starting negotiations, but who knows how and when studios are going to open again.”
