In typical fashion, the leader of a LeBron James venture is being replaced.
Three weeks after James announced production of Space Jam 2 was underway, director Terence Nance is exiting the project and veteran comedy director Malcolm D. Lee is taking his place.

Along with James and his business partner Maverick Carter, Black Panther filmmaker Ryan Coogler is producing the sequel to the 1996 classic. Coogler also wrote the latest draft of the script with Sev Ohanian.
James will star in the film and NBA stars including his new Lakers teammate Anthony Davis, Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard and Golden State Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson are all expected to have “key roles” in the flick. Phoenix Mercury guard Diana Taurasi and Los Angeles Sparks power forward Nneka Ogwumike of the WNBA will also have parts. Don Cheadle, who recently appeared in Avengers: Endgame, has also been cast for the project, which is set to hit theaters in July 2021.
Released in 1996, the original Space Jam grossed over $230 million at the global box office.
