How to Play the Unreleased “GoldenEye 007” Video Game Remake Online
A discarded update on the classic Nintendo game just leaked
The Nintendo 64 game GoldenEye 007 was an iconic video game based off of the James Bond canon that elevated both first-person shooters and multi-player gaming.
Sadly, that 1997 title never got its most recent update, a remake over at the Xbox 360 Live Arcade service. Originally scheduled for release in 2008, it’s now thankfully playable on PC.
As Video Games Chronicle reports, a leak of the almost-finished game — originally canceled due to complicated rights issues between Nintendo, Activision and Microsoft — can be accessed and played through unofficial emulators. Split-screen multi-player and single-player modes are available, but a planned online multi-player version is not accessible.
The game is also available in both enhanced and original graphics. According to The Verge, to play you’ll need to find a copy of the ROM on file-sharing sites — you’re on your own there, Mr. Bond — and configure an Xbox 360 emulator (they suggest Xenia).
