We’ve all gotta go somehow, and in the grand scheme of things, this way seems alright, alright, alright: in his new book Greenlights, Matthew McConaughey reveals that his father died while having sex with his mother.
“I got a call from my Mom. ‘Your dad died.’ My knees buckled,” McConaughey recalls in an excerpt from the book shared by People. “I couldn’t believe it. He was my dad. Nobody or nothing could kill him. Except mom. He’d always told me and my brothers, ‘Boys, when I go, I’m gonna be makin’ love to your mother.’ And that’s what happened. He had a heart attack when he climaxed.”
The actor also spoke with People about the tumultuous nature of his parents’ relationship, revealing they were divorced and remarried multiple times and occasionally got violent with one another. (McConaughey’s father died in 1992, and his mother is currently 88.)
“They were at times violent,” he said. “That is how they communicated. They were divorced twice, married three times. I mean, yeah, it was like the Pacific Ocean in a storm. But those moments were always so quickly 100 percent of the time superseded by the love and the humanity.”
