‘Bond 25’ Shooting Reportedly Suspended After Daniel Craig Injury
This is only the latest hurdle for the project
Production on the latest James Bond flick has reportedly stalled due to an on-set injury sustained by star Daniel Craig.
An unnamed source reportedly told British news outlet The Sun that Craig injured an ankle while filming one of the final scenes for Bond 25 in Jamaica. “He was sprinting during filming when he slipped and fell quite awkwardly,” the source said. “He was in quite a lot of pain and was complaining about his ankle.”
The 51-year-old actor was reportedly flown to the United States for X-rays, where he is said to be seeing a specialist who has examined other U.K. stars, including English soccer player Harry Kane.
While it is unknown how long Craig’s injury will delay production, The Sun reported that filming scheduled for this weekend at London’s Pinewood Studios has been cancelled.
This isn’t the first time the James Bond star has sustained an on-set injury since taking over the iconic role back in 2005. As Variety notes, Craig’s injuries go all the way back to his Bond debut, Casino Royale, when the star had two teeth knocked out during his first stunt scene. Since then, the actor has sliced off a finger tip, torn a shoulder muscle and injured his knee performing various stunts throughout his Bond career.
The potential production delay from Craig’s latest injury would only be the latest setback for the project. The film’s planned release has already been pushed back from October 2019 to April 2020, following script difficulties that led to former director Danny Boyle’s exit from the project over creative differences with producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.
The film is now being directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga. The Bond flick’s official title has yet to be announced.
