Tom Hanks is going to be your neighbor. The beloved Hollywood star is going to be playing TV personality Fred Rogers in biopic You Are My Friend, directed by Marielle Heller, who directed Diary of a Teenage Girl. The screenplay was written by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster. The feature will start production this September and is based on the real-life friendship between Rogers and award-winning journalist Tom Junod. Junod, somewhat unwillingly, accepted an assignment to write a profile piece on the beloved icon and discovers that his whole perspective on life has transformed. Hanks can currently be seen in Steven Spielberg’s The Post. The Oscar winner is also set to reprise his role of Woody in Pixar’s Toy Story 4 and is also attached to the sci-fi feature Bios. Hannah Minghella and Shary Shirazi will oversee the project for TriStar.
