Federal regulators took steps two weeks ago to kill a super PAC that supported former Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein, the Daily Beast reports. The PAC, called “Blaze it for Delegate Jill Stein,” was in fact of a joke. It did not spend a single cent during the 2016 election, and was created by a 14-year-old.
In September 2016, Charlie Baker of South Orange, New Jersey, was in an 8th grade social studies class. His teacher put them into camps representing various presidential candidates — he was in Jill Stein’s — and he was encouraged to be creative in his advocacy. So, he tore a three-hole punched piece of paper out of his notebook and wrote the FEC a letter. He listed himself as the custodian of records and the treasurer of the super PAC, and wrote his title as “Supreme Trap Lord.” His friend was listed as the designated agent and had the title of “Elf Lord.” The super PAC was approved in less than a week.
No one donated to the PAC and they made no effort to help elect Stein. On Dec. 20, 2016, the FEC wrote Baker, telling him that the PAC hadn’t revealed what political activities it was spending money on (since they had no money). Baker didn’t answer, so the FEC followed up again on Dec. 28 and then again Feb. 16, 2018. Baker had fully checked out of it, and was unaware that his super PAC was about to be killed.
“We didn’t do anything with it,” he told The Daily Beast. “But the craziest thing is we could of. The FEC had absolutely no problem approving this super PAC that we wrote out on lined pieces of paper and that was formed by a bunch of 14-year-olds. There is a problem here.”
