The Best Room Money Can Buy at Claridge’s

The room comes with its own butler.

Town & Country has started a column where they offer a glimpse inside the most charming, luxurious and iconic properties around the world. This week, they profile Claridge’s, the five-star hideaway hotel that dates back more than a century. Head Concierge Martin Ballard told Town & Country a bit about the famed property, and his favorite room. He said that the hotel is “an art deco jewel that is the embodiment of grand English style and timeless glamour.” Their two-bedroom Grand Piano Suite is one of the most luxurious and special signature suites. Designed by legendary fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg, the suite has a marble fireplace, grand piano, private bar, beautiful living room and an amazing view of London. The room also has a personal Claridge’s butler. The average nightly rate is $9,389. Claridge’s has hosted many celebrities, including Audrey Hepburn, Cary Grant, Kate Moss, Victoria Beckham, and Gwyneth Paltrow among others, Ballard said. Spencer Tracy once famously said, “When I die, I don’t want to go to heaven, I want to go to Claridge’s.” During World War II, Claridge’s became a safe place for exiled royalty and heads of state. According to Ballard, the Kings of Greece, Norway, Yugoslavia, and the Queen of The Netherlands stayed for the duration, as did the presidents of both Poland and Czechoslovakia.
