When Seth Meyer’s first child, Ashe, was born two years ago, Meyers and his wife were worried that he was going to be born in the Uber. But the birth of their second child completely tops that: On Tuesday, Meyers shared the dramatic story of how his new son, Axel Strahl, was born Sunday in the lobby of their New York apartment building.
Meyers explained that his wife’s labor progressed very quickly, but he and their doula tried to convince her she would still make it to the hospital.
But his wife, Alexi Ashe, knew otherwise, and told him “The baby is coming. The baby is out.” Meyers said he looked at his wife and “the only way I could describe was she looked like someone who was hiding a baby in a pair of sweatpants.” Alexi successfully gave birth in the lobby, and neighbors heated up towels to wrap the baby in to keep him warm. The New York Fire Department and the New York Police Department arrived to help, and Meyers shared a photo of him, his wife and NYFD personnel. He went on to thank them, as well as their midwife, family members and the building’s doorman. He also got emotional thanking his wife. “I’m getting choked up thinking about how brave I was,” he joked.
