Aston Martin and Rolls-Royce have combined forces to create the Volante Vision Concept, a self-flying personal jet that is capable of reaching 200 mph. The jet was designed with urban commuters in mind, and is powered by a gas turbine hybrid propulsion system created by Rolls-Royce, reports Maxim.
U.K.-based Cranfield University developed vertical take-off and landing technologies employed by military jets and also helped out in creating the Vision. They built a tri-rotor propeller set-up capable of VTOL.
“Their heritage in VTOL systems is quite strong,” Aston Martin Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Simon Sproule said about Cranfield, according to Maxim. “They did the Harrier system and they currently do the system for the new F-35 Lightning which has just started service with the air force.”
