In a family that includes famed former supermodel Cindy Crawford, and the next generation of catwalk and fashion mag stars in 16-year-old daughter, Kaia Gerber and 18-year-old son, Presley Gerber, it’s easy for the patriarch to feel like a fourth wheel. But a New York Times Sunday profile shows that Rande Gerber, 55, is no slouch in the genes department, with a model pedigree of his own.
Of course, these days, the older Gerber can leave the cameras to his wife and kids: He sold Casamigos, a tequila brand he co-created with his pal, George Clooney, for close to $1 billion. Lost in his high profile successes as a nightclub impresario in the 1990s was a brief career before that as a model himself. Discovered by Ford Models as a 16-year-old, the Queens born looker modeled for brands like Sassoon and Benetton in the ’80s.
“In those vintage modeling shots, Mr. Gerber epitomized the male beauty ideals of the era: a blow-dried beefcake, lounging on the range in double denim, or sweatlessly working out in scoop-cut tank tops,” writes the Times.
