An unresponsive patient at a hospital in Florida confused hospital staff when they discovered the words “DO NOT RESUSCITATE” tattooed on the man’s chest with the word “NOT” underlined, and with his signature beneath it. The hospital staff chose to ignore the request, but they alerted the ethics team, who disagreed with their decision. Florida has very stringent rules on DNR requests, but was this tattoo a legally-binding document?
