Two years after his infamous prison break from Clinton Correctional Facility in Upstate New York, David Sweat plotted a potential escape from his newer cell in the maximum-security Five Points Correctional Facility. As detailed with flourish in Sunday’s New York Times, the scheme included homemade tools out of security screws, the disarming of an electric sensor and a tourniquet-like device made out of water-soaked bedsheets to tear a hole in a grate. But, Sweat didn’t go through with his plan this time. He used his girlfriend as an intermediary to bargain the information for special privileges, including an extra visit with his lover each week and food packages. Instead of meeting his demands, prison officials moved him the notorious Attica Correctional Facility.
“In the end, Mr. Sweat’s skills as an escapee may be stronger than his ability as a negotiator,” wrote The Times.
