According to Variety, Jessica Chastain is in negotiations to star in New Line’s It sequel as the adult version of Beverly. The film will be directed by Andy Muschietti and Gary Dauberman will write the script. In the 2017 horror hit, Beverly was played by Sophia Lillis. Sources told Variety that the negotiations are early and that the script is still being worked on, but both sides have officially begun discussing her coming on to the project. Bill Skarsgard is expected to return to his role as Pennywise with production starts back up again this summer. The sequel is supposed to hit theaters Sept. 6, 2019. Chastain has been linked to the sequel for some time following the movie’s monster opening weekend in 2017. Muschiettis mentioned her during an interview with Variety as his top choice for who would play adult Beverly in the sequel. They two have worked together before on Muschiettis’ first studio hit, Mama. Chastain is coming off a Golden Globe-nominated performance in Molly’s Game and is expected to be in X-Men: Dark Phoenix later this year. Chapter Two of It will follow the last half of Stephen King’s eponymous novel when the characters return to their hometown years later as adults to face the clown that terrorized them as children.
