At only 27-years-old, Jennifer Lawrence is the highest-paid actress in the world and the youngest person to have earned four Oscar nominations (she won best actress for Silver Linings Playbook) and three Golden Globe awards. She is also one of the most authentic actresses in Hollywood, writes Vanity Fair in their cover story about Lawrence, who has in addition to her critical accolades and awards has starred in a pair of multi-billion-dollar franchises, The Hunger Games and X-Men. Vanity Fair writes that Lawrence is “imbued with insatiable curiosity, professionalism, a work ethic, and extraordinary natural talent.” Lawrence’s next film, Red Sparrow, is about an injured ballerina who is recruited by the government to join an elite squad of officers who use psychological and sexual warfare to extract secrets from state enemies. Lawrence, who had personal photos stolen and posted on the Internet in 2014, has a nude scene in it. She was wary of people judging that choice, but she said that the distinction is simple: “One is my choice.” The actress told Vanity Fair that the choice to do the movie and the nude scene was actually empowering, and she “got something back that was taken from me.”
This last year was a hard one for Lawrence. It started out with negative reviews for her movie Passengers and then a private jet she was flying on suffered double engine failure at 31,000 feet and was forced to make an emergency landing. She suffers from PTSD from the event and started therapy. She also went through a break-up with director Darren Aronofsky, who she met while making Mother!, which was well-received by critics but not the public. Lawrence is going to take the next year off from acting and focus on politics. She joined the board of Represent.Us, a bipartisan grassroots organization that aims to root corruption out of politics. She is no longer holding back her political opinions. And she feels most supported by her strong friendship, like the ones she has with fellow actresses Emma Stone, Brie Larson and Amy Schumer, as well as a tight group outside the industry that she has known for more than 10 years. Vanity Fair tells a story how one time Lawrence’s friend Laura was on a photo shoot with Lawrence and Vanity Fair, and Lawrence’s dog defecated. Laura handed the actress a plastic bag, and Lawrence picked up after her own dog. Vanity Fair writer Krista Smith says, “it gave me such a sense of pride that the world’s biggest movie star is still humble enough to pick up her own dog s**t.”
