A coroner has ruled that Cranberries lead singer Dolores O’Riordan died by drowning after drinking an excessive amount of alcohol, according to a BBC report. O’Riordan, 46, died January 15 of this year in the bathtub of her room in the Park Lane Hilton Hotel in London.
The coroner called what happened a “tragic accident.” The inquest, convened at Westminster Coroner’s Court, found no evidence of any attempt at self-harm. Miniature bottles of alcohol and a bottle of champagne were found on the scene as well as prescription drugs, of which the coroner ruled a “therapeutic” amount were found in her system.
The Cranberries issued a statement following the inquest, expressing condolences to O’Riordan’s family. “To see how much of a positive impact she had on people’s lives has been a source of great comfort to us,” the statement also read.
