The Rockefeller “Playhouse” is a two-story, Tudor-style building that was built by John D. Rockfeller Jr. in 1927 as a place for his family members to meet, host events and simply enjoy the finer things.
Even though the main home on the Rockefeller estate in the Hudson Valley was opened to the public, the Playhouse had remained in the family’s hands for years. But this week, the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund announced the Playhouse and other guest houses and surrounding land from the Rockefeller estate will become part of the Pocantico Center, according to Town & Country.
The Playhouse includes an indoor swimming pool, tennis courts, basketball courts, squash courts, billiards room and bowling alleys. The current plan is to adopt it into a setting for meetings and conferences.
