Art can be found all around us, from the skyscraper you work in to the medicine you take each morning. One group of filmmakers is out to prove that art is in the chemistry of daily life—and the science behind it is actually pretty cool.
Beauty of Science, a video series produced by Dr. Yan Liang and his team from the University of Science and Technology in China, has the goal of getting people excited about the wonders of chemistry; and showing students just how fascinating science, technology, engineering, and math can be. Short on explanation and packed with stunning visuals, the videos either use microscopic photography to reveal nature’s secrets—like metal displacement reactions—or employ computer graphics to visualize scientific wonders, such as chemical structures. Both are done so well, the clips seem more like video art than a science lesson.
